We were ready to meet with the enemy, - National Guardsman Sergey about the defense of Chernihiv region
In 2014, the soldier took part in the ATO zone — in the liberation of the city of Mariupol. He also performed combat missions at a checkpoint near Luhansk, where heavy fighting with the occupiers took place. However, no less fierce struggle with the enemy awaited Sergei in 2022.
The soldier joined the National Guard of Ukraine in 2013 - at that time the internal troops. Subsequently, he took the position of chief of military uniforms of the patrol unit, and later - the post of chief sergeant of 3082 of the National Guard.
“On the morning of February 24, he received a combat alarm at home, after which he arrived in the military unit and equipped himself with personnel. He then received ammunition and an order to occupy the defense of Pivci Airport. Having equipped fortifications and created engineering defenses of the facility, we blocked the landing strip to prevent enemy helicopters from landing with landing. Later, a tank brigade with infantry came to our aid. We were ready to meet with the enemy,” Sergey recalls.
The guard says that on February 25 they learned that enemy tanks entered one of the residential areas of Chernihiv. So after a while, the Ukrainian defenders met them and, together with the territorial defense, destroyed the tanks.
“We fought side by side with the Armed Forces in the so-called triangle - the road on Pivka, the ZAZ area and the regional hospital, where we confidently held positions and cut off the enemy infantry. We also fought with sabotage and reconnaissance groups,” the soldier adds.
In addition, the guard notes that during the fighting, the enemy infantry was not very prepared and confident. After two weeks of fighting, Sergei, having held his position and repelled the enemy, returned to the deployment of his unit, where he continues to perform tasks for the defense of the city of Chernihiv.
By the decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky for performing combat tasks for the defense of the city of Chernihiv and the destruction of several units of enemy equipment on the approaches to the city, the National Guardsman was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the III degree.
