Mechanism “Children and Armed Conflicts”: Information and Practical Seminar Held in Kyiv
Training and coordination took place in Kyiv within the framework of the “Children and Armed Conflicts” mechanism. The event was held at the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Office of the Prosecutor General and the support of UNICEF under the patronage of the Counsellor - Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Rights of the Child and Child Rehabilitation, the national focal point on children and armed conflicts in Ukraine Darya Gerara Simchuk.
The objective of the event was to familiarize with the agenda and mandate of “Children and Armed Conflicts” at the international and national levels, as well as six serious violations against children in Ukraine and their monitoring. The participants of the event also took part in the discussion of coordination and information exchange between the structures.
According to Daria Gerasimchuk, Ukraine, as a state that defends itself from the aggressor, for the first time in history signed a joint preventive plan: “Today here we are implementing joint measures with the UN and taking steps to protect our children. And I am sure that other countries will consult with us in the future, not only to gain experience in working within the framework of the CAAC mandate, but also to practically implement it in their countries in order to protect their children. Therefore, this workshop is pilot and at the same time - important strategic.”
“Children and armed conflict” is one of several thematic items on the agenda of the UN Security Council.
