Leonid Tymchenko: “Since the beginning of the war, it has been possible to find more than half of the number of missing persons”

More than 50% of the citizens who were considered missing since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine were found by the authorities of the National Police of Ukraine. However, as of today, data on 23,760 people missing under special circumstances have been confirmed. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Tymchenko today, on May 3, on the air of the TV channel “Kyiv”.

“Since the beginning of the war, 101,543 cases of missing citizens have been recorded. Subsequently, this information was included in the unified record kept by the National Police, then the priority actions for verification were carried out. 54 310 people were wanted, - the Deputy Minister informed. - After all the necessary measures were carried out, 31 330 people were declared wanted. Of these, 7,570 people are wanted. The unaccounted for remains are 23,760 people who disappeared — and this is verified — under special circumstances.” The

data of persons missing under special circumstances are included in the Unified Register of Persons Missing under Special Circumstances, which worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Relatives of persons missing under special circumstances can already apply for an extract from the Register.

“The Register of Missing Persons under special circumstances includes data on both civilians and military personnel,” Leonid Tymchenko stressed. - Information about such persons was received by the National Authorities Police, it was checked and subsequently verified by representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under special circumstances. After that, the information is entered into the Register”.

It should be noted that special circumstances are armed conflict, military actions, temporary occupation of part of the territory of Ukraine, as well as emergencies of a natural or man-made nature. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has introduced the Register for the purpose of clear and controlled accounting of persons missing under special circumstances, as well as emergencies the possibility for relatives of the missing on the basis of an extract from the Register to apply to the Pension Fund of Ukraine to receive payments.

Extracts from the Unified Register will be provided by employees of the Department of Informatization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
