Ekaterina Pavlichenko told how not to become a victim of labor exploitation abroad
In an interview with NV, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ekaterina Pavlichenko noted that the war, which caused a huge wave of refugees, has become an ideal cover for human traffickers. For them, there is no concept of solidarity or togetherness, for them it is a profitable business.
“Traffickers mostly hunt women and girls who are forced to move to another country and those who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. Human traffickers are professional psychologists, it can be both men and women. Unfortunately, there is no single portrait. Thieves often pretend to be volunteers, thus creating trust in others. Therefore, now it is especially important to be aware and careful not to fall into the trap of a trafficker,” the deputy minister informed.
After the start of a full-scale war, information about Ukrainians — forced migrants abroad who were victims of human trafficking — did not come from Europol or Interpol, from diplomatic or consular agencies of Ukraine, or from non-governmental organizations.
“Law enforcement officers of Lithuania and Poland, in cooperation with the National Police of Ukraine, prevented an attempt to export to the United States 43 pupils of one of the Ukrainian orphanages. At the same time, according to regulatory documents, the specified orphanage was evacuated from the Kirovograd region to Lithuania. The Office of the Prosecutor General has already opened criminal proceedings on this fact — this is Art. 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely trafficking in human beings. A similar investigation is being conducted by Lithuanian law enforcement officers. Interaction with foreign colleagues takes place under the auspices of Eurojust and Europol,” she added.
In addition, the deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that women who temporarily live in someone else's home abroad should pay attention to, so as not to become victims of labor exploitation.
“To keep yourself and your children safe, register with IDPs. They are created at each checkpoint and operate under the supervision of law enforcement officers. In the centers of registration of migrants, all persons are recorded, if necessary, they are directed to places of temporary stay in an organized manner. Such a registration procedure is an additional protection and the right not only to legally stay in the EU, but also the opportunity to get a job or receive material assistance,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
