The European Union provided assistance to the National Police of Ukraine
Today, June 29, in Uzhgorod, the Consultative Mission of the European Union together with the United Nations Office for Project Services handed over to the National Police of Ukraine more than 1000 special sets of uniforms for police officers that ensure law order during public events.
Assistance is provided within the framework of the project of international technical support “PRAVO-POLICE” for the implementation of the support package “Ensuring public security and order” with the financial support of the European Union. The police uniform will be transferred to the regional units of the National Police, taking into account the needs.
Hannelore Vallier, Head of the Lviv Office of the Consultative Mission of the European Union (ECSC), said: “We have helped the National Police of Ukraine to borrow a new concept of public order protection, in line with the best new practices. Work clothes are a necessary part of the implementation of this project. In addition to the vehicles that support public order, which we presented earlier, together with colleagues from the PRAVO-POLICE project, now the work clothes sum up this project. They were a necessary part of ensuring that the Ukrainian police could implement what we were advised to do.”
Hannelore Vallier handed over the sets of work clothes to the head of the Department of Preventive Activities of the Transcarpathian Police Oleksandr Prykhodka. Acting Head of the Sector of International Police Cooperation of the GUNP in the Transcarpathian Region Oleksiy Fedurtsia spoke at the meeting: “On behalf of the police, I would like to thank our international partners for all the actions they are taking to support Ukraine, the new reforms that are now being implemented. It is a long and difficult road that we will overcome together.”
Mykhailo Turyanytsya, Senior Communications Officer of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), said: “We started the path of implementing this support package under completely different circumstances. Unfortunately, we are now working in difficult security conditions in Ukraine. But we understand the importance of maintaining law and order in the country.”
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed the hope to have many more joint mutually beneficial projects of the police, the CMES and UNOPS.
