The story of the National Guard with the nickname “Finn”, who returned from the other world and received the Hero of Ukraine
Since childhood, Dmitry Finashin dreamed of being a military man. First he got to the part of the NGU in the capital. And after three years of service he joined the Kulchitsky battalion and gained combat experience in the Donbas.
The national guard with the nickname “Fin” even before the full-scale invasion became the commander of the air reconnaissance platoon. And then, having the rank of senior sergeant, he retrained as a sniper.
He told about this in an interview with “Ukrainska Pravda”.
On February 24, 2022, the future Hero of Ukraine met in Popasna in Luhansk region, where he arrived with his unit the day before.
Three months later, during the cleaning of the “green house” in Yakovlivka in Luhansk region, Dmitry Finashin and his comrades were surrounded. In the hours-long battle, he survived, but remained one of the group, with numerous injuries.
On the radio of one of the dead soldiers of the Armed Forces, the occupiers reported: “All your “two hundred”, we finished the wounded.” For two days Finashin swelled with blood, drank water from the swamp, tried to keep warm.
He failed in hallucinations, during which his own came to him, but for some reason they could not evacuate.
“In the two days after the injury, I kept mentally asking my friends, 'Come, look for me, because a little more and I'm going to die. ' But it was not because of fear, but more because of the instinct of self-preservation. It was scary only when I saw the guys walking towards me. I thought it was the Russians. And so he suffered for two days, and now they are still tormenting. I really didn't want that,” Dmytro recalls.
On the third day, a barely alive senior sergeant, moving in his direction, was found by a full knight of the Order “For Courage”, Maxim Bugel of the 80th Brigade. In the hospital in Dnipro, Dmitry Finashin had his left arm amputated.
Impressed by Finn's salvation and his thirst for life, the President awarded Dmitry the title of Hero of Ukraine and awarded him the Order of the Golden Star.
“Ukraine has to win. We have no other choice. The fight is for survival. I tried to imagine the situation, how the Russians appear here: the military, the police, whoever. How unsweet it will be for me, my family. And I could not imagine such a situation. We have nowhere to retreat. We have already paid too big a price to lose,” the National Guard said.
