On November 28, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Latvia signed the Implementing Protocol to the Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on readmission of persons.

By signing this international agreement, the State Migration Service, as the central competent authority of Ukraine in the field of migration, successfully completes the negotiation process with the Republic of Latvia started in 2016, which will strengthen effective international cooperation in the field of readmission of persons.

The implementation of the protocol will contribute to the formation of a positive image of Ukraine before the EU. It will emphasize the development of partnership relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia and improve, on the basis of reciprocity, quick and effective procedures for the identification and safe and organized return of persons who do not comply with the rules of entry, departure and stay in the territory of Ukraine or Latvia.

In addition, within the framework of the meeting, the Head of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia Guntis Puyats and the Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Natalia Naumenko discussed issues of mutual interest of the two countries, in particular related to the stay of Ukrainian citizens in Latvia and possible directions of interdepartmental cooperation.

As a result, the participants of the meeting supported mutual interest in deepening bilateral cooperation to overcome all challenges caused by the war in Ukraine, in the field of security, migration, etc.
