The National Guardsmen, who were wounded in the Bakhmut direction, underwent rehabilitation abroad. Treatment in Italy and Lithuania was made possible thanks to the support of international partners and Ukrainian charitable foundations.

“Immediately upon arrival, we got to consult a doctor who prescribed each procedure. Most of those who came here received shrapnel wounds to the limbs. The wounds have already healed, but there is still psychological rehabilitation, it is often underestimated, but it is important. I thank everyone, thanks to whom this trip became possible,” says Dmitry about rehabilitation in Lithuania.

A guard with the nickname “Yakuza” was wounded in late 2022 during the defense of Bakhmut: “An urgent task has been accomplished. We went to the city of Bakhmut. When we pushed other directions, we still held the defense. We were taken into a semicircle and began to attack from all sides, a massive shelling began. Tank, artillery, and aircraft worked on us all the time. They brought the enemy AGS. Five soldiers were wounded, including me. I received 12 shrapnel wounds. Two of them came out swinging, “stitching” the right knee and left thigh. The rest went to the limbs and one to the stomach. Fortunately, we have very good doctors who saved our lives.”

Rehabilitation “Yakuza” took place in the Italian Alps. The village of Chienes, where the National Guardsmen were, is known for its thermal and mineral waters, which have a positive effect on the recovery and rapid healing of bones, joints and muscles.

“All of us and the guys were in the same battalion-tactical group, cooperated to a certain extent, covered each other. Here we were able to really relax together and discuss our joint operations,” the military said.
