The guards of the Spartan brigade told about the specifics of the work of the scout
The soldiers of the special purpose reconnaissance company of the Spartan brigade perform the most dangerous and risky tasks, often they have to work in the rear of the enemy, perform sabotage and reconnaissance tasks, carry out mine-explosive work directly on the line of contact.
A guard under the call of Hata since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he has been serving in the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine, he was 23 years old, before serving in the troops he was engaged in cargo transportation, was a truck driver in one of the Ukrainian logistics companies.
However, on February 25, he already performed combat tasks in the approaches to Kharkov, in the spring of 2022, as part of a reserve company, he went to Luhansk region, where he took part in the battles for Komyshuvak, Ekaterinovka and Gorskoye. Currently, the guardsman holds the position of deputy platoon commander.
“The main tasks of our unit are intelligence activities. Observation of the front edge of the enemy's defense in a defined zone of responsibility, for changes in the grouping of troops, its armament, numerical composition and nature of actions. In general, they were supposed to be engaged only in reconnaissance, but in Bakhmut they also carried out offensive actions, waged positional warfare, because the enemy resorted to the tactics of massive long-term artillery shelling,” says the guard.
Another volunteer with the callsign Veles comes from Gostomel, in civilian life he provided services for apartment repair. He gained his first combat experience in the Donetsk direction in Velyka Novosilka as part of the 12th separate battalion of the National Guard, and later transferred to the brigade “Spartan” with which three held positions at the hottest point of the front — Bakhmut.
Veles is 44 years old, he notes that he never thought he would have to take up arms. He passed military school already while in the ranks of the National Guard.
The specifics of the reconnaissance profession primarily involves increased physical exertion, so the guards have daily combat and special training. Along with the basic skills that a special assignment officer must possess, in particular, is knowledge of topography, tactical medicine and engineering.
The scout, under the call sign Tenth before the full-scale invasion, lived in the Dnipropetrovsk region, was engaged in the installation of solar panels. Joined Spartan in November last year.
The fighter says that the specifics of the scout profession are quite subtle and have many nuances, since any commander's decision is always made on the basis of intelligence data.
“Sometimes we had to carry out tasks that are not inherent in intelligence - assaults, stripping, but such tasks are also up to us, because today war is not conducted according to the textbook, it evolves, changes and requires the ability to adapt,” the military says.
By the way, the guards of the Spartan brigade are a specific component of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. They are professionally destroying Russian invaders on the eastern borders and desperately fighting for the will and sovereignty of Ukrainian lands.
