Every year, Ukraine celebrates the winners of the All-Ukrainian action “Rescuer Hero of the Year”. It was introduced on the Day of the Rescuer, which is celebrated on September 17. Thanks to this action, ordinary citizens who showed courage and heroism during the rescue of people, property, the elimination of fires, accidents, emergencies, natural disasters receive honors.

The action takes place with the participation of the President of Ukraine. This year, the winners of the All-Ukrainian action “Rescuer Hero of the Year” were seven residents of different regions of Ukraine.

One of the winners Yuri Vasetsky is a sports coach. In January of this year, he rescued a child from under the rubble in the Dnieper.

On January 14, an enemy rocket hit a residential building on the street Naberezhnaya Peremoha in the city of Dnipro.

Yuriy Vasetsky was near the site of the missile strike. So he immediately ran to the aid of the people left in the destroyed house.

One of the apartments was 12-year-old Rostyslav Yaroshenko. Yuri is a former coach of a teenager. At the time of the enemy attack, the boy was alone at home.

Near the house, Yuri heard the screams of adults and children who were trapped and tried to get out. Under the destroyed apartments remained a canopy from the local outpatient clinic. Yuri climbed on it and saw that behind the bars inside the room was a woman with a child. It was not possible to remove the grille independently, other guys helped. Together they got inside and pulled them out of there.

Later, reaching the third floor, Yuri got to the room, where he found Rostislav. The man helped the boy get out of the destroyed house.

“There the stove fell on the stove and it was there that I found Rostislav. Personally, I was afraid that there would be no explosion, because this house is gas,” Yuriy said.

The stories of the “Heroes of the Year” Miroslav Kurilyak, Oleksandr Prykodko and Vasyl Chepovyk can be found today on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
