District Officer Dmytro Soloviy as part of the police crew “White Angel” helps people in Avdiivka
Dmytro, 22, is a district police officer, but now he serves as a paramedic in the White Angel evacuation group.
He is a native Avdiyan. He decided to become a law enforcement officer at school after meeting Gennady Yudin, who worked in the city as a youth police officer. No one knew then that in a few years the two would become partners and save people in a war zone together.
From the first days of the full-scale war Avdiyivka became one of the hottest points on the map of Ukraine. The occupiers tried to capture the settlement, using all types of weapons against the civilian population.
Currently, 1,500 townspeople remain in Avdiyivka, and the “White Angels” — Dmitry Soloviy and Gennady Yudin — help them survive under constant shelling. Every day they travel to the epicenters of explosions — they save the lives of the seriously injured, document the consequences of Russian attacks, evacuate children and patients, and bring bread.
“Since 2014, our city has been subjected to shelling, but they have not been as intense. It was a “peaceful life.” But a full-scale war ensued. It was my birthday. At first there was fear. However, there was a feeling that we had to protect the people who needed our help. So I'm constantly in Avdiivka. And I will be here until our victory,” says Dmitry.
Recently, the White Angels were hit by an air strike. The crew arrived to retrieve from under the rubble a man who had died as a result of the shelling. At this time, an air bomb hit a nine-story building located nearby. Fortunately, law enforcement officers were not injured.
Despite his young age, Dmitry has considerable experience in saving people's lives.
“I want the war to end soon. So that my family lived together in Avdiivka, I married my girlfriend and continued to help the residents of my hometown,” Dmytro Soloviy shares plans for the future.
