Today, December 8, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori.

One of the main topics of discussion of the parties was extremely critical for Ukraine the topic of humanitarian demining of de-occupied territories. It is known that with the support of the Government of Japan in cooperation with UNDP, a new project of international technical assistance was launched in Ukraine with the participation of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and a number of communities in Kyiv region with a total cost of 4.5 million US dollars. It is provided for the provision of vehicles, armor protection equipment, metal detectors, other special equipment to the pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service (JICA). Also, the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation (JICA) has started cooperation with the SNS in the field of demining.

The Agency is working on the possibility of launching a grant project to provide technical assistance to Ukrainian emergency responders in the period 2023 — 2024. In particular, off-road vehicles for pyrotechnics, mechanized mining machines, metal detectors, quadcopters, excavators-planners, bulldozers, autografers, buses.

The issue of training of SNS sappers in Cambodia is dealt with separately. Denis Monastyrsky noted the productive development of cooperation with Japanese partners.

Thus, in the field of humanitarian demining, it is possible to start both short and long-term cooperation formats.

“For us, demining is very important in the sense of access to critical infrastructure, roads, and other components of life support. On the other hand, demining is a long history lasting years. With this in mind, we can define and plan directions of such joint work for decades ahead,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine outlined the prospects for this aspect of cooperation.

Also, the participants of the meeting touched on the issue of providing mobile points of invincibility with everything necessary and generally overcoming the challenges that winter is preparing for us.

Denis Monastyrsky informed the partners that more than 1 thousand Points of Inviolability have already been deployed in the SNS system, of which 300 are mobile. Practice shows that 90% of citizens turn to mobile Inviolability Points and therefore emphasis should be placed on the development of this format of this initiative. And the help of partners in their arrangement will not be superfluous either.

“Our cooperation is not about cars, it is about the saved lives and health of tens of thousands of people in Ukraine”, - Denis Monastyrsky outlined the goal of everything that the agency is now trying to do thanks to international assistance in the first place.

The Minister of Internal Affairs also thanked the Japanese side for its long and consistent practical assistance in establishing and reforming the Ukrainian police. At the same time, Mr. Matsudo Kuninori assured of the support of Ukrainian partners and all our people, who are fighting a just struggle for their own statehood.
