Denis Monastyrsky: The Ministry of Internal Affairs is working to increase the level of security in Ukrainian cities
This was announced today, July 13, by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky during a live broadcast on the “United News” telethon. We discussed the security situation in the country and the crimes that are currently being committed.
“At the beginning of large-scale armed aggression, we saw a decrease in the number of crimes and calls to the police, which decreased by 1.5 times compared to the same period last year. However, we understand that this is due to the large number of displaced persons,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
He also noted that in the coming months an increase in appeals is expected, because every day more and more citizens return to their homes.
Regarding the state of the criminogenic situation in the state, the Minister stressed: “War crimes are a significant part of the total. Today, the police recorded more than 20 thousand of them. We have 97,000 offenses, which is 10% less compared to the same figure in 2021.”
According to him, the safety situation on the roads has also changed: almost three times less than last year. Today, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is working to increase the level of security in Ukrainian cities. First of all, it is the implementation of the “Safe Country” project and the increase in the number of fixation cameras on the roads.
Also, this project will help in the fight against saboteurs and strengthen security measures: “It is a unified network of video cameras, including private ones, to be able to search for sabotage and intelligence groups. Checking at checkpoints and curfew will also help in their detection. In addition, we are strengthening border areas with the Arab Republic in order to prevent the DRG from these territories.”
The Minister said that the issue of arms circulation among the population was raised at the summit of the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Justice of the Member States of the European Union in Prague: “Regarding our concept, the very first is the adoption of the law on the circulation of civilian weapons. The second is the creation of an electronic register of weapons. In addition, there will be months of surrender of weapons, where it will be possible to voluntarily surrender it.”
At the end of the broadcast, Denis Monastyrsky called for the use of official websites to provide assistance to those affected by the consequences of the war and to transfer charitable funds only to well-known foundations. He spoke about fraud on volunteer assistance: “Recently, the cyber police uncovered a whole network of people who were administering about 400 fake websites. They tried to get people's bank details for transferring so-called social payments from the EU. Fraudsters have harmed more than 5000 citizens in the amount of more than UAH 100 million.
