Bohdan Drap'yaty: The bill on the procedure for obtaining declarations and handling firearms is designed to protect citizens from criminal liability
“The draft law has two goals, but first of all it is to protect Ukrainian citizens from criminal liability, because we know that the legislation, in particular Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, establishes that liability is established for illegal handling or illegal circulation of firearms,” - the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bohdan Drapyaty of Ukraine announced on the air of the All-Ukrainian Telemarathon “United News”.
Recall that the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with parliamentarians, developed a balanced version of the draft law “On Amendments to the Law “On Ensuring the Participation of Civilians in the Defense of Ukraine” on Improving the Procedure for Receiving, Declaring and Handling Firearms (Register No. 9538), which Kaka The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as a subject of legislative initiative submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Also, the Deputy Minister said that the second goal of this bill is to strengthen control by state authorities on the volume of relevant weapons.
“If a citizen of Ukraine has an unregistered weapon, he must contact the police units with this weapon, declare it in the National Police. The police will take note of this weapon and return it to the citizen for the period of martial law. But after the end of the martial law, the citizen will have to hand over all weapons back to the state authorities, in particular the police,” he said.
In addition, Bohdan Drapiaty stressed that not all types of weapons can be declared: “A citizen will be able to declare such weapons as a combat pistol, as an automatic rifle, as a sniper rifle of the appropriate caliber. At the same time, weapons that we call military, as well as grenade launchers, machine guns and explosives, cannot be declared.”
