The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine held a meeting of the Head of the Department Igor Klymenko with the Azerbaijani delegation headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymour Mardalyev. The main topic of the talks was humanitarian demining and the exchange of experience between countries in this direction.

At the beginning of the event, Igor Klymenko congratulated Azerbaijani colleagues on the election of Ilham Aliyev as President of the country and thanked for the strong support of Ukraine during these two years. Also, the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted the assistance of the official Baku in eliminating the consequences of the subversion by the occupiers of the Kakhov hydroelectric power plant.

“I would like to thank your Government, the President and the people of Azerbaijan for the assistance provided to Ukraine during these two years of war. We also highly appreciate your contribution to the elimination of the consequences of the explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

For his part, Seymour Mardalyev assured that Ukraine and Azerbaijan are strategic partners and will continue to increase cooperation in security and demining:

“Unfortunately, our country knows from its own experience what a mine hazard is. Due to the war, almost the entire area of Azerbaijan was contaminated with ammunition. That is why we are ready to share our own experience with Ukraine and continue to help you in this matter. In particular, we would like to assist you in conducting trainings for your sappers.”

In addition, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Ukraine spoke about the production of mechanized mining machines, one of which was transferred to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine within the framework of cooperation between the countries.

“Humanitarian demining is a priority for our country. Even with the minor production of mechanized demining machines, you provided us with one of them, for which we are very grateful. This vehicle will be used primarily for the demining of agricultural land in the de-occupied territories,” said the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klymenko.

The parties also discussed further cooperation and exchange of experience on the reintegration of the occupied territories, the fight against illegal arms trafficking and the fight against crime.

At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine thanked the Ministry of Internal Affairs and personally the Head of the Department for fruitful cooperation. In turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine expressed hope that cooperation between the countries on security issues will be strengthened.

Recall that on November 24, 2023, the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Poltava region received from Azerbaijan the “Revival P” mechanized demining machine. Ukraine was also visited by representatives of the company producing equipment, which conducted training for Ukrainian specialists.
