Security situation, reforms and further cooperation: Igor Klymenko met with the ambassadors of the G7 countries
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs spoke about the current security situation in the country, outlined the problematic issues and challenges that faced the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system and further steps in cooperation with the member countries of the “Group of Seven”.
Among the topics for discussion: security and criminogenic situation, enemy attacks, war crimes, weapons accounting, demining territories, cyber security, domestic violence, work of situational and service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, combating corruption.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Alexey Sergeev and Kateryna Pavlichenko also joined the meeting.
According to the Minister, the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system are an integral part of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and constitute its fourth part.
Currently, 9 brigades of the “Guard of Offensive” have been formed in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. These are thousands of fighters who are now on the front lines. And in the future they will enter the de-occupied territories and carry out stabilization measures there.
“In 11 months of this year, Russians have shelled 59 thousand times on settlements in 24 regions of Ukraine. As a result, 11 thousand citizens were injured, 2 thousand - died. Most of the shelling in Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy and Chernihiv regions,” Igor Klymenko reported.
In his turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori assured of the further support of our state from the member countries of the Group of Seven and the Government of Japan.
“The Japanese government continues to cooperate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in particular in the field of demining. We are interested in providing equipment and conducting training with your specialists,” Matsuda Kuninori emphasized.
After that, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs focused on documenting war crimes in the country - law enforcement officers registered almost 101 thousand such facts. Among them - shelling, bullying of the civilian population, deportation, illegal imprisonment. Igor Klymenko also stressed that Ukraine continues to work on reforms. For example, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is developing a security project, which contains 17 areas of work. Among them - control over the circulation of weapons.
“We have submitted to parliament draft laws that will improve the procedure for handling and declaring weapons. All weapons in the hands of citizens must be registered by the National Police of Ukraine. And after the end of the war, within 90 days it must be handed over to law enforcement agencies. The Ministry of Internal Affairs supports the issue of legislative settlement of civilian firearms. I hope the parliament will soon support our initiative,” the Head of the Department stressed.
Finally, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine thanked the ambassadors of the “Group of Seven” countries for their visit and assistance.
“Without your support, the support of the Big Seven, we would not have been able to implement much of what we have already done. We feel this support not only in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, domestically, but also on the battlefield,” Igor Klymenko emphasized.
