In addition, law enforcement officers are investigating 46 proceedings on the facts of crimes against journalists by the Russian military, as well as 288 criminal proceedings on the facts of embezzlement of humanitarian aid. This was reported by the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Alyona Matveeva during a weekly briefing in Ukrinform.

Since the beginning of the martial law, law enforcement officers have launched almost 20,000 criminal proceedings for so-called “looting”. Already 4303 persons have been notified of suspicion, 4984 criminal proceedings have been directed to the court.

“Among the most resonant crimes of this category are the following: it was reported that a person who, during the period of active hostilities, in March-April 2022, in the village of Pidgirtsi, Obukhiv district of the Kiev region, committed the theft of gold products in the amount of 545 thousand hryvnias. In addition, 6 persons were reported to have illegally seized 35 vehicles during active hostilities in Boryspil district of Kyiv region, using the form of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The case against the suspect, who committed 14 facts of fraud against internally displaced persons, who transferred money to his card account for allegedly renting housing, is also sent to the court,” Alyona Matveeva said.

According to her, the police investigated 46 criminal proceedings on the facts of crimes committed against journalists by the Russian military during the invasion of Ukraine. Of them, 29 were killed, 15 were injured and 11 media representatives were abducted, of which 31 proceedings were transferred to the SBU. Currently, in 15 criminal proceedings, the investigation is carried out by NPU investigators.

“Regarding collaborative activities. In the proceedings of the investigation and investigation units of the NPU, there were 927 criminal proceedings on the grounds of criminal offenses such as collaborative activities. 159 persons were reported on suspicion. In 68 criminal proceedings, the materials concerning the suspects were sent to court,” Alyona Matveeva said.

Also, during the martial law, investigators of the National Police of Ukraine initiated a total of 288 criminal proceedings on the facts of illegal actions related to humanitarian aid, charitable donations and gratuitous assistance. Thirty-nine persons were reported to be suspected in 47 criminal proceedings.

“Suspicion was reported to a person who, together with representatives of charitable and public organizations of the city. In June 2022, Chernivtsi sold humanitarian aid in the form of vehicles “Nissan”, “Mitsubishi L200”, “Merсedes-Benz” and “Toyota rav4" intended for servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in June 2022 in order to obtain illegal profits totaling almost half a million hryvnias. It was also reported about the suspicion of a person who in June 2022, while serving as the director of one of the charitable organizations of the city. Zhytomyr, in order to obtain illegal profit, sold humanitarian aid in the form of military ammunition in the amount of almost half a million hryvnias, intended for the military Armed Forces,” the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
