Police are making every effort to find the missing. The spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Alyona Matveeva said about this on the FreeDom TV channel.

“Since February 24, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, there have been about 48,000 reports of people missing. In total, almost 30 thousand people have been found for these statements. However, it is worth noting that these are statements that were submitted to the National Police, since people could also apply to other law enforcement agencies,” Alyona Matveeva said.

She noted that the police begin the search after receiving the relevant application.

“Information is entered into the ERDR and law enforcement officers begin to collect data on the person as much as possible: where the person disappeared, whether it was during shelling or during the occupation. If the application is submitted by a relative of the missing person, a DNA examination is carried out, the data of which is entered into the appropriate database,” said Alyona Matveeva.

Applications for missing persons can be submitted by phone, by mail and directly at police stations.

“Not only relatives can apply, it can be friends, colleagues, acquaintances. It is necessary to indicate the date and place of disappearance, at least approximately, personal data, date and year of birth, special signs, phone numbers, passport data, as well as contacts of persons who may know where the person could have disappeared,” the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine added.

According to her, the most missing persons are in the regions where active fighting is taking place — Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
