A fighter of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine with the nickname “Batya” single-handedly repelled enemy attacks near Bakhmut for several days. Despite the fact that he was seriously wounded, and the forces of the enemy prevailed at times, the man gave the invaders a worthy rebuff. A corresponding story about the hero of the border guard appeared on the air of the United News marathon.

Before the full-scale invasion of the Russians on the territory of Ukraine, “Batya” worked as a welder. He joined the ranks of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine in the fall of 2022. Then he knocked out the enemy in the Kharkov region. In November 2023, it was already fighting on the outskirts of Bakhmut.

One day “Batya” with three brothers took up positions. The Russians were 100 meters away, covered with artillery, beat with mortars, attacked with drones and continuously stormed.

“We were taken into a semicircle, we crawled somewhere by 20 meters and started throwing grenades. One brother was injured, the other had his arm torn off. Later, a grenade fell between us. I sat down bent down and wounded me, and Zhenya was killed,” recalls the border guard.

The wounded comrade “Batya” was allowed to evacuate - he covered until he crawled to a safe distance. Provided first aid to himself and a second injured defender. However, after a few hours of lull, the Russians began to attack again.

“I was lying in the hole, I hear “Let's throw the grenade.” They came closer and threw a grenade. I was saved by what was in the hole. The fragments did not fall. I immediately eat a grenade in response. Wounded,” says “Batya”.

The battle went on for a long time. The border guard stood courageously, threw grenades, shot himself. The battle was monitored by air reconnaissance. Because of the dense fire, reinforcements could not come, so the drone dropped water, food, and walkie-talkies to the defender. The man single-handedly eliminated at least three Russians, wounded several others.

How “Batya” got out of position and how he lives now - see in the material.
