Main functions of the Department:

1) determination of trends, priority directions and principles of development and improvement of the departmental health system, their forecasting, development and implementation of targeted and prospective programs assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in terms of the implementation of the state policy in the field of health care of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

2) implementation of organizational and methodological guidance of the work of health institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

3) control over obtaining permits (licenses) by health care institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the right to carry out certain types of activities, their passage of state accreditation;

4) organization of medical support for persons who, in accordance with the law, are entitled to medical care in health institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

5) control over the selection of persons entitled to preferential rehabilitation, sanatorium-resort treatment and rehabilitation in medical rehabilitation centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

6) maintaining a register of employees, retirees from among the ranks and chiefs of the internal affairs bodies and servicemen of the internal forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP, and members of their families, as part of the State Register of Persons of Ukraine who suffered as a result of the Chernobyl disaster;

7) organization of control over the elimination of the causes and conditions of occurrence and spread of outbreaks of infectious diseases, occupational diseases, epidemics, poisonings of persons who, in accordance with the law, are entitled to medical care in health institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

8) organization of implementation of the latest technologies, achievements of science, technology and best practices in the practice of health institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and control over their implementation;

9) ensuring coordination of interaction between structural units of the apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard of Ukraine, central executive bodies, whose activities are directed and coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine through the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, legal and natural persons on health issues;

10) control over the organization of advanced training of doctors of health institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
