Address of Denis Monastyrsky on the occasion of the Day of Commemoration of Participants in the Elimination of the Consequences of the Chernobyl Disaster
Dear colleagues, dear veterans of Chernobyl!
On December 14, Ukraine honors participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
On this day, we bow our heads low to the memory of the deceased heroes and pay tribute to all the liquidators of the accident who saved the future for their descendants, taking the path of an uncontrolled nuclear element and thereby protecting not only the Ukrainian land, but also all humanity from its spread.
First of all, firefighter heroes, employees of the internal affairs bodies and servicemen of the internal forces stopped the disaster, made it impossible for it to develop into a global annihilation tornado.
In total, 33 thousand employees of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine passed through the Chernobyl hell.
The granting of state status to the Liquidator Day once again emphasizes their special contribution to the localization and then elimination of the man-made disaster and at the same time emphasizes the importance of resolving issues of their social and legal protection.
The echoes of the disaster will not subside soon. Its effects are felt by the present and will be felt by future generations. However, we look to the future with optimism, learn from mistakes, and we must do everything we can to ensure that this never happens again.
The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, all of us will always work to ensure that the heroes of Chernobyl and members of their families feel the constant attention, support and care of the state, so that all conditions are created for solving their vital issues, first of all ensuring decent amounts of pension provision and modern medical care.
With all my heart I wish the heroes-liquidators health, happiness and well-being!
