Protection of children's rights is a priority area of activity in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and NPU — Kateryna Pavlichenko
This was emphasized by the Deputy Minister during the round table held in the Office of the President of Ukraine. During the event, the participants discussed the issues of protecting the rights of children affected by sexual violence and exploitation, during the criminal process and the creation of a pilot project of the Center for Children's Justice.
The objective of the center is to make the investigation of cases of child sexual abuse psychologically comfortable for those affected.
“Any practices and innovations aimed at improving the protection of the rights of the child, mechanisms for working with children affected by offenses should be implemented in our state. NPU units are already taking measures aimed at proper organization and investigation of sexual crimes committed against children. Because the protection of children's rights is a priority area of activity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the NPU,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
The Children's Justice Center is a team of specialists that consists of representatives of law enforcement agencies, the prosecutor's office, judicial expertise, health care, social protection and lawyers who will be present during the child's interview and make decisions about the investigation process and provide socio-psychological support to the family. The launch of the pilot project is scheduled for September 2021.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs is ready to introduce innovations, best international policies and practices that are aimed at improving the protection of children's rights, as in particular in the model of the Center for Children's Justice. We support the creation of such centers in the state and consider it appropriate to scale them throughout Ukraine,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
