The group included two organizers - the founders of a private clinic. The attackers recruited poor women to participate in the so-called “surrogate motherhood” program.

Women went to the Czech Republic to give birth to babies. At the same time, no medical documents mentioned surrogacy, but instead indicated that babies were born according to the standard procedure. In the birth certificate of the children, the mother was a citizen of Ukraine, and the father was a foreigner. Subsequently, “surrogate mothers” were forced to impersonate biological and issue a waiver of parental rights in favor of foreigners.

For their services, the organizers of the criminal group received 50-70 thousand euros. It has now been established that in three years of criminal activity, the organizers received more than 1.2 million euros from the sale of babies.

The police documented the entire chain of criminal activity. The attackers were exposed by the employees of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police together with employees of the Department of Migration Police and operational units of the Kiev and Kharkiv police. Procedural leadership was carried out by employees of the Office of the Prosecutor General. In addition, employees of the international investigation team, which included Czech and Swedish colleagues, took part in the special operation.

Currently, 20 authorized searches have been carried out in the clinic and the places of residence of the defendants. Law enforcers seized documents and seals of medical institutions, as well as premium cars.

Six defendants have already been notified of suspicions of committing the offenses provided for in Part 3 of Art. 149 (Trafficking in Persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Violators face punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property belonging to them.

The court will decide on the choice of preventive measures for members of the organized group in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of 50 million hryvnias each.
