Transcarpathian police establish circumstances of an accident in the mountains

According to preliminary information, a World War I shell exploded in the mountains of Rakhiv region, as a result of which two tourists died, five more were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity and contusions. On this fact, the police opened criminal proceedings.

On September 15, a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk region called the police, who reported that her husband witnessed an explosion in the mountains in Rakhiv region. Rescuers and a police investigative and operational team arrived on the call. According to the results of the first-line investigative actions, it was established that a group of tourists from Ivano-Frankivsk region came to Grigoriv mountain, on Kukol mountain, on their own cars. There were 12 people in total, including two children aged 2 and 5.

At the resting place, tourists put up tents and began to make bonfires. Shortly after, at the place where the vacationers spread the fire, there was an explosion, as a result of which two people who were sitting near the fire died at the scene, five more were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity and contusions. The children were not hurt.

It is known that in the specified territory, where tourists rested, the Arpad Line passed. A pothole resulting from an explosion and corroded metal fragments similar to the wreckage of a World War I projectile were found at the scene. According to this fact, police investigators entered information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Expert research will be appointed in the case, as a result of which the police will find out all the circumstances of the incident.
