A resident of Rivne region will appear before the court for cruel treatment of animals
The investigators collected the necessary and sufficient evidence in the criminal proceedings and, with the approval of the local prosecutor's office, sent the materials to the court. The accused explains his act by the fact that homeless dogs “got” him. The maximum penalty that can threaten an attacker is a restriction of liberty for up to 8 years.
The incident occurred on August 10 this year. Then the 46-year-old man decided to deal with a homeless dog, which seemed to pounce on him the day before. He wanted to shoot her with a pneumatic rifle, but he missed and aimed at the puppy's head. After that, he fired several shots again and hit another puppy twice.
The criminal acts were seen by neighbors and immediately reported to Special Line 102. Police found a dead puppy, and another was lying wounded nearby. The quadruped victim was examined in a veterinary clinic, where an X-ray revealed the bullet and provided the necessary assistance.
According to eyewitness descriptions, the police quickly located the attacker - a 46-year-old local resident. The air rifle, which he had hidden on the outskirts of the city under a tree, was seized by the investigator.
On the fact of the cruel treatment committed against two animals, the information was entered into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Part 3 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. As part of the criminal proceedings, a 46-year-old resident of Zdolbunov was informed of the suspicion. According to the act of veterinarians, according to the results of the autopsy, the death of the animal occurred as a result of traumatic brain damage caused by a bullet wound.
The suspect confessed to the crime and during the pre-trial investigation actively cooperated with the investigation, which became a circumstance that mitigates the punishment.
Investigative department №6 (m. Zdolbuniv) gathered the necessary evidence, and criminal proceedings with a plea agreement and an indictment were sent to court. The sanction of the article provides for a sentence in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
