The internal security of the National Police established a group of men who, under the threat of physical violence, demanded money from a resident of Kharkov. Together with the investigators of the regional police, the SBU and the prosecutor's office of Kharkiv region, the extortionists were detained.

Operatives of the Kharkiv Department of the Department of Internal Security of the NPU received information about a group of persons who demanded money from a 43-year-old woman. 50 thousand US dollars the Kharkov woman had to “return” as a long-standing debt. In case of refusal, they threatened to massacre her and her relatives.

For the persuasiveness of their threats, during the conversation, the extortionists demonstrated full awareness of the woman's close people: their place of residence, transportation routes, occupation, age, and so on. Fearing for the lives of her relatives, she gave 20 thousand dollars. However, she continued to be intimidated, wanting to get the full amount.

According to the internal security materials of the NPU, the investigators of the Kharkiv Regional State Police, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office of the region, entered information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Part 2 of Art. 189 (Extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Police officers together with the SBU established that three people are involved in the exposed fact: two Kharkov residents, 58 and 59 years old, as well as the 35-year-old son of one of them, who currently lives in Kyiv.

After the next transfer of funds, all defendants were detained. The joint special operation was carried out simultaneously on the territory of Kharkiv and Kyiv with the strong support of the fighters of the Rapid Response Division of the NPU and the special purpose police company “EAST”.

One of the attackers tried to escape while being detained and carried out a car attack on law enforcement officers. However, he did not succeed.

Authorized searches were carried out at the place of residence of the conspirators. Police investigators are preparing a presentation of suspicion for them. In addition, one of the defendants will be responsible for resisting law enforcement officers during their official duties.

On the basis of Art. 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine detained the men, they were placed in a temporary detention center. In case of proof of guilt, the defendants face imprisonment for up to seven years.
