Today, August 10, a joint briefing of the Department of Cyberpolice, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the National Bank of Ukraine on the detection of a 300,000 hryvnia fraudulent scheme was held in the press center of the Ukrinform news agency.

As reported the day before, the cyber police exposed a resident of Kryvyi Rih in illegal registration of online loans to citizens. About 40 people were injured from the wrongful actions of the defendant. Law enforcement officers managed to expose the scheme in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Ivan Tymoshenko, the head of the Office of Combating Cybercrime in Kyiv, spoke about the details of the investigation of the crime and said that since the beginning of the year, about 1,500 appeals from citizens about illegal loan processing have been received to the cyber police.

“The appeal, which related directly to the transfer of data through BankID and the entry to the mobile application “Action” - only one was recorded. The attacker submitted documents to open virtual cards with forged copies of documents. As a result, poor-quality identification and verification by validators of the banking institution was carried out, which led to the receipt of virtual cards,” said Ivan Tymoshenko.

In turn, First Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Alexey Viskub thanked the cyber police for the successful investigation and noted that it was very important for the department, because recently there have been many manipulative materials that cast doubt on the safety of using the Diya application.

Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Oleksiy Shaban stressed that the National Bank is making significant efforts to strengthen the protection of online banking services, system products. He also spoke about the organization of cyber security exercises for employees of the banking sector of Ukraine.

“The exercises will make a significant contribution to the development of cyber defense of the banking system of Ukraine and increase the cyber resilience of critical infrastructure facilities of the financial system,” Oleksiy Shaban said.

At the end, the speakers reminded the audience of the basic recommendations for the protection of the financial phone number, the use of two-factor authentication and data protection and answered questions from journalists.
