From September 1, 2021, persons in need of additional protection in Ukraine will be documented with IDs with contactless electronic media
Today, the Government of Ukraine adopted a resolution “Some issues of registration and issuance of identity documents requiring additional protection”, which approved the Procedure for registration, issuance, exchange, transfer, removal, return to the state, invalidation and destruction of an identity card requiring additional protection, as well as a sample and technique description of the form of the specified certificate with a contactless electronic carrier.
In accordance with the decision adopted by the Government, from September 1, 2021, registration and issuance of a biometric identity card requiring additional protection is introduced by the means of the Unified State Demographic Register.
It should be noted that until the completion of the work on providing the territorial bodies of the State Migration Service of Ukraine with the material and technical resources necessary for registration and issuance of a biometric identity card requiring additional protection, such a document can be issued without a contactless electronic medium. Under this condition, a non-biometric identity card requiring additional protection, issued and issued on the basis of documents submitted before September 1, 2021, will be valid for the period for which it was issued.
The resolution will enter into force from September 1, 2021.
