Bribes for “positive” checks - the deputy head of the tax service of the region was detained in Rivne region
25 thousand hryvnias of illegal benefits were received by an official from an individual entrepreneur.
Operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Rivne Region of the National Police, together with law enforcement colleagues, exposed the activities of the Deputy Head of the Department of the State Police. The official established a corruption scheme for conducting inspections of the economic activities of entrepreneurs. For a certain reward, he promised to “turn a blind eye” to violations identified as a result of such checks, and therefore not to apply penalties against violators.
Law enforcement officers documented the fact of extortion and receipt by the tax authority from the entrepreneur of illegal benefits. He was detained while receiving 25 thousand hryvnias. The deputy head of the department has already been informed of the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the court chose a preventive measure - detention with the right to make bail.
For acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an illegal benefit by an official, the current legislation provides for liability in the form of imprisonment for a period of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years, with confiscation property. Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by the SBI under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
