All units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are preparing to ensure public safety during the May holidays - Serhiy Yarovyi

This was stated by the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Serhiy Yarovyi during the selection meeting.

“Starting from May 1, Ukraine is waiting for long holidays and memorable dates: May 1, Easter, which falls on May 2, May 8 - Remembrance and Reconciliation Day, May 9 - Victory over Nazism Day and long weekends. In addition, on May 2, we will honor the victims of the tragic events in the city of Odessa. Therefore, all units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs should be ready to ensure public safety and order in the first decade of May. Of course, we must not forget about the quarantine restrictions that continue,” he said.

Serhiy Yarovyi stressed that the leaders in the regions should familiarize themselves with the operational situation in the regions, as well as make calculations of how many personnel will be involved. Organize the work of operational headquarters, which should include representatives of the National Police, the National Guard, the State Emergency Service and the State Border Guard Service.

Sergey Yarovyi stressed that according to preliminary information, more than 13,000 temples will work throughout the country, and about 1 million people are expected to take part in religious events.

Also, during the May holidays and events, aviation units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are on duty.

It is worth noting that on Easter holidays, more than 20 thousand police officers, 1.3 thousand guards, 4.7 thousand rescuers and 900 cadets will be involved in ensuring public order and security.

First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergey Yarovyi said that all leaders on the ground should respond promptly to all changes in the situation.

“I also draw attention to the fact that citizens must be promptly informed about all changes in the current situation. And also inspect all religious buildings in advance to ensure public order and fire safety. During religious holidays, dialogue police should work at the places of consecration, which will remind citizens of the necessary quarantine restrictions and observance of social distancing,” Serhiy Yarovyi said.

The head of the National Police Igor Klymenko noted that starting at 21:00 on May 1, Divine services begin in religious buildings on the occasion of the celebration of Easter. The police have already developed and approved the operational plan and the calculation of forces and means. The maximum number of police, National Guard troops and rescuers will be involved in ensuring law order.


“I call on the police to act tolerably, first of all we carry out preventive work. In the premises of temples it is necessary to delimit citizens from a distance of one and a half meters, one citizen per 4 square meters. Also, distance must be ensured during the consecration of baskets and baptismal processions in case they are carried out. Unconditional conditions are the wearing of protective masks by parishioners both in the middle of religious buildings and near them during ceremonies. It is necessary to pay attention to the restrictions on the conduct of such religious rites as attachment to icons, anointing and Holy Communion. Heads of General Administrations to monitor the divisions into red and orange zones, taking into account which zone your region is in, ensure quarantine restrictions,” he said.

At the same time, Igor Klymenko stressed that May 1 is Labor Day. On this day, trade union organizations are traditionally active. Thematic actions can be held throughout the territory of our state. The heads of the Main Departments shall ensure the monitoring of activities.

NGU commander Nikolai Balan said that the National Guard is ready to switch to an enhanced version of service.

“Since May 1, to ensure the protection of public order, the daily involvement of more than 3,5 thousand troops, 120 auto patrols and more than 60 patrols with service dogs has been established. Also, the soldiers of the NGU, together with the police, carry out quarantine measures. Also, the guards continue to serve in the area of the Joint Forces,” said Nikolai Balan.

The head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Serhiy Deineko noted that on the eve of the holidays, the units of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine took additional measures to protect the state border.


“The situation on the state border is stable and controlled. However, the DPS units are ready for its aggravation on the border with Russia, combat reserves are kept at the ready, and intelligence and search units have been activated. And also measures are being taken to prevent undesirable persons and representatives of Russian special services planning destabilization measures to Ukraine,” Serhiy Deyneko said.

The head of the State Emergency Service Nikolai Chechotkin said that about 7,000 personnel and 2 thousand units of rescue and special equipment, as well as pyrotechnic calculations and 8 aircraft will be on duty in the SNS system.

“If the situation becomes more complicated, the number of personnel and equipment can be doubled. Work was also organized with all authorities, inspection of all religious buildings was carried out, and the inspectorate conducted firefighting briefings with clergy,” he noted.
