Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Ukrainian border guards with state awards
On the occasion of the Day of the Border Guard of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed Decree No. 182/2021 on the recognition of state awards of the defenders of the Ukrainian border.
According to the document, 11 border guards were awarded for significant personal contribution to the protection of the state border, protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine:
Order of Danylo Halytsky — Colonel VYCHALKIVSKY Igor Vladimirovich, Chapl Lieutenant Colonel Vitaliy Mikhailovich;
Medal “For Impeccable Service” of the 3rd century — Lieutenant Colonel KHARCHENKO Volodymyr Ivanovich, Captain PRONKO Dmitry Igorovich, Senior Ensign TOLMACHEV Oleksandr Mikhailovich;
Medal “For Military Service to Ukraine” — Colonel GURNIAK Mikhail Alexandrovich, Lieutenant Colonel Vasylchuk Mykola Mykolaievich, Major PROTKIEV Yuriy Igorovich;
Medal “Defender of the Fatherland” — senior ensign VAKULKO Tamara Ivanovna, ensign of ARNAUT Mykola Vladimirovich;
Medal “For Work and Excitement” — retired colonel of VALKO Mykola Vasilyevich.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the special contribution of the defenders of state borders in ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
“Today, the border guard of Ukraine is not only the face of the country that people see when crossing the state border at checkpoints. This is, first of all, a defender of the state, responsible to the people for the inviolability of the border and its security,” the President noted.
As the Head of State recalled, border guards were among the first to defend Ukraine in 2014, demonstrating loyalty to the country and unbreakable spirit.
“Reliable protection of the state border depends not only on modern weapons and equipment, but above all on people, on their professionalism, determination and willingness to defend. I believe that soon our borders will be peaceful again. I wish Ukrainian border guards professional success, happiness and well-being to their families,” the Head of State said.
The leadership of the State Border Guard Service took part in the celebrations dedicated to the occasion of the holiday. Border guards of the Administration of the department laid flowers at the monument to the defenders of the borders of the Fatherland of all generations, as well as at the Wall of Memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
