Internal security of the National Police detained a group of persons for committing systematic thefts from the Odessa oil refinery
Law enforcement officers of the Odessa region established a group of persons involved in the systematic theft of goods and non-ferrous metals from the territory of the state enterprise “Odessa Oil Refinery”. Currently, five defendants have been placed in temporary detention.
The Odessa oil refinery is a strategically important object for the state's economy, which has not been exploited since mid-2018. The issue of resuming its activities after tender purchases directly depends on the safety of the enterprise.
To this end, the Agency for Search and Asset Management (ARMA) appealed to law enforcement agencies with a request to take additional measures to ensure public safety and security of the Odessa refinery. After all, the object suffers from numerous facts of theft of power grids and other property.
Employees of the Odessa Department of Internal Security of the National Police of Ukraine, within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, carried out a complex of operational measures and established the activities of a group of persons who committed theft of property. A version was considered about the “crumbling” by police officers of the activities of intruders, but during the check this fact did not find its confirmation.
A group of residents of Odessa region was engaged in systematic theft of goods and non-ferrous metals from the state enterprise. As a result of criminal activity, the conspirators caused property damage to a strategic object on a particularly large scale.
During the joint internal security measures of the NPU, the USBU and the Suvorov District Prosecutor's Office of the Odessa region, five men aged 23 to 42 were detained during the commission of the offense. The attackers dismantled almost five kilometers of power copper cable and tried to take it out of the plant for further sale.
On the fact of the incident, the police department No. 2 of the Odessa RUP entered information into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under Part 3 of Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. At the place of residence of the defendants of the group, authorized searches were carried out, three cars and tools for dismantling factory equipment were seized.
In the order of Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, thieves were detained and placed in a temporary detention center. The men are under suspicion. Further investigative actions are ongoing to identify and hold other members of the group accountable.
