Requisition of 120 thousand US dollars - in Transcarpathia police detained a “criminal authority” and his accomplice
In order to force the resident of the Tyachiv district to pay the money, the attackers threatened him with physical abuse and destruction of property.
On October 20, operatives of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Transcarpathian region of the National Police, together with law enforcement colleagues with the support of KORD, detained two people immediately after receiving part of the funds from the amount determined by them — $10,000.
Among the detainees are a local “criminal authority” and his nephew. From the victim they demanded 120 thousand US dollars, which he allegedly owed. The whole process of extortion was accompanied by threats of physical abuse against the victim and his family members, and in case of non-compliance with their demands, they promised to destroy his property.
At present, both offenders have been detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in the Temporary Detention Facility.
Yesterday, October 21, investigators of the investigative department of the GUNP in the Transcarpathian region informed the detainees about the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 189 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The prosecutor's office of the region is preparing a petition to the court to elect the defendants preventive measures.
For extortion, the current legislation provides for liability - up to seven years in prison.
