They demanded 17.5 thousand US dollars for non-interference in business — two gang members were detained in Zhytomyr region
It was established that the criminal group included three residents of the region, one of them was previously convicted. Another is a defendant in a case of illegal possession of a car. They systematically “knocked out” funds to one of the local entrepreneurs, who provided services in the field of recreation.
The amount of funds demanded by intruders for non-interference in the work of a businessman is $17,500. It is known that at the same time the defendants threatened the victim with physical abuse and exerted psychological pressure.
Operatives of Strategic Investigations Directorate in Zhytomyr region exposed the criminal group. Together with the investigators of the regional police department and with the force support of KORD yesterday, May 31, they detained two gang members in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They just received the first part of the agreed amount from the victim — $5,000. The money was withdrawn on the spot.
In addition, according to the results of searches in places of residence and in the cars of the defendants, they found and seized: $4,700 in cash, weapons, radios and two cars. Detainees have already been informed of suspicions under Part 2 of Art. 189 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
After the necessary procedural measures, a legal assessment of the actions of the third gang member will be provided. Procedural management is carried out by the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office. The investigation is ongoing.
