The victim was kidnapped to force him to pay a “non-existent debt” — police detained a criminal group in Kyiv
On Friday, May 28, the operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in the city of Kiev, with the strong support of the special police regiment, detained four people and released a woman. All detainees were informed of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
It was established that the group consisted of four people aged 23 to 32 years, including those from other countries. For a long time, under threats of physical abuse, they demanded that the citizen pay them 15 thousand UAH monthly — repayment of the so-called “non-existent debt”.
To convince the determination of their actions, the attackers took 30 thousand hryvnias and her personal belongings. However, the woman did not agree to fulfill the conditions of the group members. Therefore, in order to force the victim to pay money, the defendants forcibly pushed her to their car, beat and took away UAH 15 thousand and a mobile phone.
On Friday, May 28, the police conducted a special operation to free the victim and arrest the members of the criminal group. In Kyiv, on Lisny Avenue, law enforcement officers blocked the car of the defendants and detained them in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During the arrest, those involved resisted the police and tried to escape.
In addition, in the course of authorized searches at the place of residence of detainees, items that were previously forcibly taken from the victim were seized.
On May 29, investigators of the Kyiv Police Investigative Department informed all detainees of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 146 (unlawful imprisonment or kidnapping of a person) and Part 2 of Art. 186 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Today, May 31, the suspects will choose precautionary measures. Prosecutors of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office appealed to the court to elect all defendants a precautionary measure in the form of detention.
For a crime committed, members of a criminal group can face up to 10 years in prison.
