It is important to create the right conditions for the adaptation and rehabilitation of the participants of the ATO/WHO - Mary Akopyan
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Akopian opened the strategic session of the working group on the issues of preservation and restoration of physical and psychological health of personnel in the security and defense sector.
The event was organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with the support of the United Nations Recovery and Peacebuilding Program.
“We live in a situation where Russian armed aggression continues in the east of Ukraine for the eighth year in a row. The number of ATO veterans, servicemen, policemen, rescuers, guards, security service workers and other units in need of assistance is growing. Solving social problems in this area is a priority on our agenda. As part of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed last year, we are strengthening cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health.
In particular, we are talking about the psychological rehabilitation of veterans, combatants and the introduction of modern effective methods of rehabilitation.
The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the departments cooperate in improving the qualifications of psychologists in psychological support of ATO participants, provision of psychological assistance to children and other family members of ATO participants, organization of legal clinics of free legal assistance, etc.
“Our strategic international partners play a significant role in the struggle to preserve the physical and psychological health of the participants of the ATO/WHO. I am grateful for the help, including non-governmental organizations, in optimizing the system of rehabilitation activities with war veterans, introduction of innovative methods of psychological support, trainings, implementation of international technical assistance projects,” said Mary Akopyan.
