During the police special operation, the employees of the migration police of the Dnipropetrovsk region freed 60 people from labor slavery
Members of the criminal group recruited people from all areas of the state to work on their agricultural lands.
As law enforcement officials found out, farmers owned 500 hectares of land in Petrykivsk and Magdalinovsky districts of Dnipropetrovsk region. To cultivate the fields and harvest vegetables, they offered the workers a decent wage. Instead, people were housed in barracks and paid only a portion of the promised funds.
For organizing criminal activity, the police detained three people aged 64, 50 and 40. On September 19, their places of residence, work and cars were searched with the participation of police departments of criminal investigation with the support of the special unit KORD. As a result, law enforcement officers seized weapons, ammunition, workers' passports, documentation, bank cards, money and three cars. At the time of the investigative measures, there were 60 people in the barracks who were subjected to labor exploitation.
Pre-trial investigation of criminal proceedings is carried out by the operatives of the Department of Migration Police of the GUNP in the Dnipropetrovsk region together with the police departments for the investigation of particularly important cases and crimes committed by organized groups and criminal organizations of the investigative department of the GUNP in the Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural leadership by the prosecutor's office.
Currently in the order of Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine detained three people. They were informed of the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (trafficking in human beings). Also, criminal proceedings were opened on the fact of storing ammunition without the permission provided by law under Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Measures are being taken to establish the whereabouts and detention of two more persons involved in human trafficking.
Detainees face imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property.
