In Kherson, police seized tobacco products worth more than 2 million hryvnias from illegal circulation
The operatives of the Kherson department of the Department of Internal Security of the National Police of Ukraine became aware that two residents of the regional center are engaged in the illegal sale of cigarettes without excise tax stamps. Yesterday, December 8, UVB employees together with representatives of the police department No. 2 of the Kherson Regional Police Department documented the illegal activities of offenders. From now on, they face criminal liability.
About a month ago, employees of the Kherson Department of FIB NPU became aware that a 31-year-old resident of Kherson is engaged in the sale of tobacco products in one of the markets of the regional center. As it turned out, there are no excise tax stamps on cigarettes. In the course of operational-search measures, law enforcement officers established that the offender periodically receives goods in one of the postal delivery offices. And in the transportation of parcels and the subsequent delivery of cigarettes at points of sale, a 39-year-old citizen helps a man on his car “HYUNDAI TUCSON”.
Also during the search operations, the operatives found out that the offenders rented a garage in the neighborhood “Zhytlosselyshche” to store the excisable goods. Yesterday, December 8, internal security operatives together with investigators and employees of the prevention unit of the police department No. 2 of the Kherson regional police department conducted an inspection of the garage. As a result, almost 72,5 thousand packs of cigarettes without excise stamps were found and seized. The total value of the seized reaches more than 2.2 million hryvnias.
Currently, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Illegal manufacture, storage, sale or transportation for the purpose of sale of excisable goods”. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of a fine in the amount of 85 to 170 thousand hryvnias with confiscation and destruction of illegally manufactured goods. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
