Pilot project “Safety Educator” started in Ukraine
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Kateryna Pavlichenko announced the start of the project during the forum “Ukraine 30. Safe community”, which took place on November 4 in Kyiv. More than ten territorial communities have already joined the project, registration is ongoing.
“This project will allow communities to build environments for children free from bullying, drugs and violence. A security educator is a civilian who will be selected and trained. And its main task is to identify and stop offenses within the educational institution, participate in preventive measures and make proposals for strengthening a safe educational environment,” said Kateryna Pavlichenko.
The territorial community can apply for participation, for this it is necessary to fill out the application form at the link. Acceptance of applications is open until November 21, 2021 inclusive.
The working group working on the implementation of the project included not only representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but also of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, the Service of the Educational Ombudsman of Ukraine, the Department of Juvenile Prevention of the National Police and NGOs.
What will belong to the competence of the “safety educator”?
- opposition to bullying (harassment) of participants in the educational process;
- detection and termination within the competence of offenses in the premises of the educational institution and on its adjacent territory;
- communication with the administration of the educational institution, representatives of the police and the children's affairs service regarding the manifestations of suicidal behavior among children;
- conducting activities related to ensuring the child's right to education;
- participation in individual preventive work with students who are on in-school registration and on preventive records in the National Police;
- prevention of offenses in the student environment (conducts individual conversations, lectures, interactive classes, etc.);
- introduction of best practices and innovative techniques in organizing the safety of participants in the educational process, increasing the level of protection of children, combating the commission of offenses by and against children, etc.;
- the fight against tobacco smoking, the use of alcoholic beverages among children, illegal drug trafficking in the territory of the educational institution and the surrounding territory;
- creation of safe infrastructure in the territory adjacent to schools and so on.
