In Odessa, law enforcement officers detained a group of persons on suspicion of illegal imprisonment of a man and collection of non-existent debt from him
Three attackers aged 33, 24 and 22 grabbed the victim near a high-rise building on Nikolaev road, beat and dragged him to a rented apartment, where they tied up and held all night, demanding 2500 US dollars.
In the morning, the beaten 25-year-old man turned to the territorial police unit and said: the offenders, two of whom are his compatriots, gave him three hours to collect the amount of money they needed. In case of non-fulfillment of their demand, his relatives are threatened with slaughter.
Going to the place where the victim was being held, the police immediately detained one of the defendants. Two of his accomplices fled in a car. Their lawmen stopped on the highway as they fled to Balta, where they once lived.
All three offenders were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The investigators informed them of the suspicion immediately according to two articles of the Criminal Code: Part 2 of Art. 146 (Unlawful Imprisonment or Abduction of a Person) and Part 3 of Art. 189 (Extortion). The question of choosing a preventive measure for suspects is being resolved. For the crime, men face up to ten years in prison with confiscation of property.
