On June 28, in Odessa with the participation of representatives of about 30 participating countries, a solemn opening ceremony of Ukrainian-American exercises “Sea Breeze 2021” was held.

This year, the theme of the exercises is to conduct an international maritime security operation in the crisis region in accordance with NATO standards in order to maintain peace and security.

About 30 naval ships, boats and vessels of the countries participating in international exercises are moored one after another in the water area of the Odessa seaport. It should be noted that this year the largest number of countries are participating in coordinated actions during the Sea Breeze.

The coordination phase at sea is currently underway, which is one of the preparatory stages for the active phase of the exercises.

Participants of the diving component from the USA, Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, Georgia and Canada work together on tasks at sea. The National Guard of Ukraine is represented by a diving group of a separate special purpose detachment of the South Odessa Territorial Department.

By the way, members of the international team of divers communicate underwater exclusively in a special sign language. It is an international language, but it has many nuances. That is why, before each joint dive with divers, a mandatory briefing is held to clarify some issues, in particular, about sign language.

One of the tasks of the diving component of the exercises is the detection and identification of explosive objects using the latest equipment that can devalue objects, detect mines and search for sunken objects.

During the coordination of actions, the divers of the National Guard of Ukraine with foreign colleagues worked out descents in the closed breathing system of the type “Aqua-Lung” (made in the USA), walking underwater according to signals with the help of the control and localization system - the “SHARK MARINE” hydrolocator, which was provided by the American partners. Also, the diver guards, together with American and Canadian doctors, underwent a practical course on providing first aid using a barocamera.
