In Zaporizhzhia, the police opened criminal proceedings on the fact of animal cruelty
On September 4, a female volunteer contacted the police station No. 2 of the Zaporizhzhya district department of the GUNP in the Zaporizhzhya region, who reported that she found a crippled cat under the house on Zaporizhzhya Street. The animal was most likely thrown out of the window. A zookeeper who found the animal took it to a veterinary clinic where numerous injuries were diagnosed: traumatic amputation of the eye, severe cranial and other injuries.
The police took measures to identify the person who got rid of the animal. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing. According to the report, the police conducted a number of operational-search activities, interviewed the residents of the house and found witnesses who heard the noise, rumbling and screams of the animal in one of the apartments on the third floor. Later it was established that the owner, after a brutal beating of a defenseless animal, threw it through the window.
On September 7, the man became a defendant in criminal proceedings opened by an investigator on the grounds of Part 1 of Art. 299 (Cruelty to animals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a period of one to three years or imprisonment from two to three years with the confiscation of an animal. Investigative actions are currently underway.
