The training “Psychological support in extreme situations” has been completed in KHNUVS
With the support of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine (@OSCE .Ukraine.Projects), the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs hosted the second phase of the international technical assistance project “Building the training capacity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on psychological support in extreme situations”.
As stated by the Rector of the University Valeriy Sokurenko, “this training provides an opportunity to master the tools, new techniques, new tools that our international partners have. It's access to new technologies that we need and that will make us more powerful, professional and mobile.”
Head of the Department of Psychological Support of the Department of Personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Nina Lygun noted the importance of continuous improvement of professional knowledge and practical skills of psychologists for the formation of a powerful practical potential of all services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system. She stressed that this project is primarily aimed at preserving the mental health of the nation, and the first training of this project took place last year on the basis of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.
For five days, psychologists from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, executive authorities mastered modern therapeutic techniques to work with psychotrauma, stress and its consequences.
As noted by the OSCE expert on psychological rehabilitation, trainer, senior researcher of the Institute of Psychology named after him. H.S. Kostyuka of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, psychotherapist, combat participant Lyudmila Tsarenko, experienced, highly professional psychologists take part in the training, “who have many years of experience working with people in severe psychological conditions, which is why the participants of this training very quickly achieve the desired result, ask a lot of questions, are not afraid Experiment, because they understand why they need it.” Lyudmila Tsarenko is convinced that most of the participants of the training will become supervisors in the systems they represent, will support and teach younger colleagues, pass on experience to them. And these are the first steps towards the creation of a new system of help, which will be based on mutual support and mutual assistance between psychologists.
OSCE expert on psychological rehabilitation, trauma-focused therapist, coach, psychologist of the center of mental rehabilitation of Khmelnytsky City Medical and Diagnostic Center Marina Malinovska emphasizes that life changes every minute, therefore people working in structures are at the forefront of the security of our country, have to keep up with the times. “Today we stand at the origins of a historic moment when the state system and the civil society system are converging. And with the help of the OSCE Coordinator, it was possible to implement such a powerful project that really takes these changes into account. Today we ourselves are creating a new story — the history of the creation of a psychological service in the power structures.”
As Marina Malinovskaya noted, examples for working out certain situations are taken from life, sometimes the topic is suggested by the participants of the training, because the main emphasis is on practical work. A practicing psychologist should feel for himself how this or that exercise works, in order to subsequently competently apply the experience gained in his further work with personnel.
The psychologist of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Poltava region Yulia Faleeva is not the first time to participate in this training and emphasizes that it is valuable precisely because it has a practical direction: “Receiving theoretical information, we immediately work it out in groups under the supervision of experienced coaches, who can suggest that we We do the right thing and what is wrong. We learned how to work with stressful situations and mastered effective techniques that help people in stressful situations.”
National Project Manager, OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine Serhiy Grinenko stressed that work in this direction will continue and new projects should be expected. “For the second year in a row, at the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we are implementing a project on providing psychological support in crisis situations. This year we are completing the second phase. We will have another group with teachers from the universities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, after which we will develop the relevant materials and methodological recommendations. This will be a ready course for introduction into the educational process in higher education institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” Serhiy Grinenko noted.
After the completion of the training, the participants received certificates, which were presented by Ambassador Henrik Villadsen, OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine.
