The Ministry of Internal Affairs held the second meeting of the Sectoral Working Group “Law Enforcement Activities”
The event was chaired by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Tetiana Kovalchuk together with the Head of the Operations Department of the European Union Advisory Mission Udo Müller, representatives of the National Police of Ukraine, the State Border Service of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Migration Service, development partners and representatives The Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine held the second meeting of the Sectoral Working Group “Law Enforcement Activities”.
The purpose of creating this group is to coordinate international technical assistance in line with the sectoral reform priorities and action plans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Tetiana Kovalchuk drew attention to the key priorities and tasks that require the involvement of MTD in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during 2021, namely: Support for the implementation of a transparent system of accounting of persons held in custody (Custody Records), assistance in preventive measures for preventing the spread of COVID-19 virus infection in Ukraine, helping to ensure reliable protection of the state border and convenient service during its crossing, increasing the effectiveness of combating illegal migration, etc.
The structure of the sectoral working group “Law Enforcement Activities” provides for the creation of two subgroups. The first subgroup “Implementing Police Activities” aims to expand opportunities on law enforcement issues such as: combating human trafficking, domestic violence and drug crime, improving police-population interaction on the basis of partnership (Community Policing). The second subgroup “Border and Migration Management” aims to strike a balance between ensuring an adequate level of border security.
On February 25, 2021, the first meeting of the above-mentioned subgroups was held in order to coordinate the needs and priorities of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the activities of international partners, to prevent duplication of work and to establish the procedure for providing assistance in certain areas of activity.
The Deputy Minister recalled the successfully implemented projects jointly with international partners, namely the implementation of such projects as: creation of Patrol Police and Cyber Police, creation of special units KORD and DOZOR in NPU and DPSU, creation of patrol academies, development of the capacity of the Anti-Narcotics Department NPU crime, creation of mobile groups to respond to domestic violence.
Tetiana Kovalchuk also stressed the need to maintain effective communication at all stages of cooperation and thanked the development partners for their support in the implementation of such projects as “Support to Reforms for the Development of the Rule of Law in Ukraine LAW”, “Operational Support in Providing Strategic Consultations on Reforming the Sector Sector Free Security of Ukraine”, “Police of the United Territorial Community”, “Support of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in preventing and combating the illegal trafficking of weapons, ammunition, explosives”, “EU support in strengthening the integrated border management in Ukraine”, etc.
During the meeting, Tatiana Kovalchuk noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs highly appreciates the help of our international partners and hopes for further fruitful cooperation.
