Hero of Ukraine Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi was honored in Lviv
On May 29, 2014, Hero of Ukraine Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi died. On the 7th anniversary of the death in the city of Lviv, events were held on the occasion of the commemoration of the “Heavenly General”.
People from all over Ukraine came to Lviv to honor Serhiy Kulchitsky. Especially many guests were from his native Operational Battalion, which bears the name of a general.
In the Garrison Church of Peter and Paul there was a prayer for Sergei Petrovich and those who died with him. In a joint prayer, all his relatives and close people were united: his son, the general's wife, Nadezhda Bohdanovna Kulchytska, the soldiers of the “Kulchitsky battalion”, his friends.
At the Lychakiv cemetery, flowers were laid and lamps were lit at the grave of the general, with the participation of the head of the Western Operational and Territorial Association Lieutenant General Alexander Nabok, Staff Sergeant of the highest category of the Department of Strategic Planning and Compatibility with NATO Structures of the Main Directorate of the NGU Sergeant Vitaly Markiv, who was a soldier of the battalion formed by a general, the head of the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny, representatives of the authorities and other law enforcement agencies, representatives of the army of partner countries.
Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi died near Slavyansk in Donetsk Oblast. Around 12:30, after a rotation of personnel, returning from the area of Mount Karachun, his MI-8MT helicopter was fired upon. During the fall, fuel tanks exploded. together with the general, 12 more people died: 6 servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine and six representatives of the special unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Only the pilot of the crew, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Makeenko, survived.
Serhiy Petrovich was buried on May 31. He was the first general to die in the east of the country.
On June 20, 2014, for exceptional military merits to the Ukrainian state, heroism and self-sacrifice, manifested in defense of the state sovereignty of Ukraine, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order of the Golden Star.
