The criminal group included the couple, their son and another accomplice. By deception, the attackers illegally kept people in a private house in the Mykolaiv region in order to seize their housing in the capital. The pre-trial investigation is completed. For their actions, they face up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Recall that in April of this year, during the implementation of operational information, the employees of the Shevchenko Police Department under the prompt support of the employees of the Department for the Protection of Public Interest and the State of the National Police of Ukraine, employees of the capital's head and under the procedural leadership of the Shevchenko District Prosecutor's Office uncovered a criminal scheme fraudsters who promised Kyivans to profitably sell their accommodation in Kiev. Instead, the fraudsters re-registered the property in their own name, and the money received from the sale was kept to themselves. During the so-called “sale of an apartment”, the victims were offered to live in a country house, which was located in one of the villages in the Cherkasy region.

As noted by the head of the investigative department of the Shevchenko Police Department Oleksandr Kolomiets, the law enforcement officers interacted with the operatives of the Mykolaiv region and Zaporizhzhia to establish the whereabouts of the victims who were wanted as missing persons:

“We studied all available information, and subsequently established that the offenders worked as part of a criminal group. They turned out to be natives of Mykolaiv region and Zaporozhye of 1958, 1969, 1974 and 1994 years of birth. The defendants developed a criminal scheme through which they tracked single or elderly people and those with drug and alcohol addictions, selecting potential victims among them. A mandatory requirement for intruders is the presence of real estate in Kiev with the victims. Three offenders were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. One of them is currently wanted.”

During 2017-2021, the attackers forcibly kept the victims in a private home. Fraudsters took away their passports, pension certificates, real estate documents and constantly used physical and psychological violence. Operational officers of the Shevchenko department of the police of the capital identified the victims. They turned out to be two women and three men, born 1933, 1989, 1958, 1968 and 1972. In addition, law enforcement found that one of the women did not stand the bullying and died.

“We have learned that within four years, intruders managed to seize four real estate objects for a total amount of more than 5.5 million hryvnias. We also prevented another attempt of fraudulent possession of an apartment worth more than 1 million hryvnias,” the law enforcement official added.

Investigators of the Shevchenko Police Department completed a pre-trial investigation. In relation to three persons, the materials of the criminal proceedings provided for in Part 2 of Article 146 (Unlawful Imprisonment or Abduction of a Person), Part 3 and Part 4 of Article 190 (Fraud), Part 4 of Article 358 (Counterfeiting of documents, seals, stamps and forms, sale or use of forged documents, fraud stamps), Part 5 of Article 27 (Types of accomplices) and Part 3 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are sent to the district court for a decision. They face up to fifteen years in prison with confiscation of property.
