Tatiana Kovalchuk discussed with the head of IOM An Nguyen the issue of cooperation in the field of combating illegal migration and trafficking in human beings

Today, May 21, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Tetiana Kovalchuk held a meeting with representatives of the International Organization for Migration in Ukraine (IOM).

The parties discussed bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and IOM in the field of combating human trafficking and illegal migration.

Tetiana Kovalchuk told foreign partners about the work of the newly created Department of Migration Police in the system of the National Police of Ukraine.

“Considerable attention in the work of the Department of Migration Police is focused not only on investigating the facts of human trafficking and illegal migration, but also on the prevention of crimes,” she said.

According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, the project to develop the migration police unit is currently a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Like another project — “Custody Records” — a system aimed at preventing violations of human rights in temporary detention centers.

Tetiana Kovalchuk invited IOM representatives to take part in the planned information company of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to spread awareness of the population on the issues of human trafficking. It also invited foreign partners to participate in the implementation of the Face to Life project, which focuses on the needs of military personnel, police officers, civil protection service personnel, other categories of personnel of the security and defense sector bodies, as well as combatants and veterans.

“The Face to Life project involves the identification of abnormalities in the psycho-emotional sphere and further diagnosis, treatment, psychological and psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as social reintegration of veterans and personnel of the security and defense sector,” said Tatiana Kovalchuk.

In turn, the head of the IOM Mission to Ukraine An Nguyen thanked for the work done in the field of combating migration crimes, stressing the comprehensive support.

“We share your views and support your initiatives,” he said.

As a reminder, Tatiana Kovalchuk discussed with IOM representatives the issue of cooperation in the field of combating trafficking in human beings.
