The court heard audio evidence in the case of the murder of the border guard Vadim Berezensky. Suspect extended period of detention
Yesterday in the Tyachiv District Court there was another hearing of the case on the murder of the border guard Vadim Berezensky.
The court considered audio evidence, in particular the recordings of telephone conversations of the smuggler, after he committed a fatal attack on the head of the department of the border service “Dilove”. In talks with his accomplices, the suspect actually confessed to the crime he committed, in particular, stating that he moved the border guard by car.
This is the seventh hearing by the new judiciary after the transfer of the case from Rakhiv District Court. In September 2020, the case began to be reconsidered. In eight months, the court convened five times to extend the detention of a murder suspect and only twice to consider the evidence in the case.
Yesterday, the court extended the detention period of the detainee until July 4 this year. The next meeting, where witnesses of the attack on the border guard officer may be heard, is scheduled for June 16.
Recall that the brazen murder of the head of the border service “Dilove” occurred in November 2018. Then the border guards detained the border violator with a significant amount of currency, to the aid of which Ivan Magei (the suspect) arrived.
Another participant in these events, border guard Sviatoslav Chechul, told journalist Glavki the following about that fateful night: “... Magei got into the car, gave back, turned the steering wheel and began to drive forward, towards me and Vadim. At first, Magee knocked me down. I fell on the hood and then rolled to the side. Then, with another jerk of the car, he knocked down Major Berezensky, who held the violator's hand. Magei moved Berezensky, knocking him off his feet. After that, I got up and first detained Scherbina, and then began to shoot at Magei's car. He jumped out of the car and fled, leaving the injured Major Berezensky under it.”
