An attacker with a friend decided to “make out” with a stranger because he offended his young son. They doused the man with a flammable substance and set him on fire. The victim with burns of 80% of his body was hospitalized to the hospital, where he died. For what has been committed, the detainee is threatened with life imprisonment.

Yesterday at about 19:30 passers-by received information that a person whose clothes were on fire was asking for help on Georgy Gongadze Avenue. Emergency personnel, doctors and police officers immediately arrived at the scene.

Kyiv Police Chief Andriy Kryshchenko reported that within two hours law enforcement officers detained persons involved in the event:

“We found that two local residents came to the unfinished building to the 41-year-old man, who first started the conflict, beat him, and then doused him with a flammable substance and set it on fire. Within two hours, we identified these men and detained them at their place of residence. Detainees explained their actions by the fact that the victim seemed to offend the son of one of them, because of which they decided to take revenge. The victim died of his injuries in the hospital.”

Investigators detained offenders in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They turned out to be natives of Kyiv, born in 1997 and 2002, who had not been prosecuted before.

“On this fact, criminal proceedings have been opened under part two of Article 15, paragraph four and twelfth of Article 115 (Intentional murder committed by a group of persons and with special cruelty) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigators are currently preparing a report of suspicion for detainees and a petition to the court to choose a precautionary measure. For committing a serious crime, the defendants face life imprisonment,” Andriy Kryshchenko added.
