“The capital's law enforcement officers searched and detained a foreigner at Boryspil airport for two hours on suspicion of murder of a friend,” - Andriy Kryshchenko
During the conflict, one of the participants received a knife wound to the chest and died on the spot. After the crime, the attacker tried to escape responsibility and leave the country, but the police quickly established his identity and detained him in the terminal of the airport “Boryspil”. The detainee was declared on suspicion of committing a crime, for which up to 15 years imprisonment is provided.
While patrolling the territory of the Desnyansky district on Lesovy Avenue, police officers saw a fight of unknown people. Law enforcers intervened in the conflict and detained the active participants. Police also found another man lying on the ground with no signs of life.
To document the incident, an investigative task force, operational staff and doctors arrived at the scene. The body of the victim was sent for forensic examination to determine the final cause of death.
Kyiv Police Chief Andriy Kryshchenko said that after interviewing witnesses of the incident, the police found out that a fight broke out between acquaintances, during which one of the participants hit the other with a knife in the chest and ran away:
“We received operational information that the attacker was heading to Boryspil airport, and therefore immediately sent police uniforms there. Within two hours, together with the airport law enforcement officers and the battalion of tactical and operational response of the patrol police, we detained the fugitive in one of the terminals of the airport in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He turned out to be a citizen of another country, born in 1993.”
The Investigative Department of the Desnyansk Police Department has initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 115 (Premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Desnyansk District Prosecutor's Office, the investigators informed the detainee about the suspicion, and also appealed to the court with a request to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention. The sanction of the article provides for up to 15 years in prison.
